Dr. Brian Hansen
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)
I’m Dr. Brian Hansen, a licensed clinical psychologist and sex therapist with more than twelve years of experience helping individuals and couples heal, reconnect, and rediscover a fulfilling sense of intimacy and self. I believe that healing in sexuality often mirrors healing in life: it’s about reclaiming authenticity, curiosity, and connection—to yourself, to others, and to the present moment. My work blends scientific rigor with human compassion—integrating research, neuroscience, and lived experience into a therapeutic process that is both grounded and transformative.

I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Brigham Young University, where I also taught Abnormal Psychology and Child and Adolescent Development. That experience gave me a strong empirical foundation for understanding human behavior and sexual health—not only in terms of dysfunction and diagnosis, but through the lens of development, attachment, and the impact of early environments. My training at BYU also honed a sensitivity to the role of faith, family, and values in shaping sexuality, identity, and psychological well-being. I continue to use that foundation when working with clients whose sexual and emotional lives intersect with trauma, cultural or religious beliefs, and relationship patterns.

Over the past decade I’ve helped clients navigate a wide range of sexual concerns, including low or mismatched desire, arousal and orgasmic difficulties, erectile and lubrication issues, sexual pain, compulsive sexual behavior, pornography use, infidelity recovery, identity exploration, and sexual trauma. My approach always integrates the emotional, relational, physiological, and spiritual dimensions of sexuality.

Because sexual issues rarely exist in isolation, I address them within the broader context of mood, trauma, and lifestyle. Depression, anxiety, and PTSD can all disrupt sexual function and connection—and, in turn, sexual distress can intensify those same emotional symptoms. In therapy, we explore these feedback loops and use a mix of cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, and somatic tools to help the body and mind recalibrate. I often incorporate lifestyle interventions—sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress regulation, and mindfulness—as well as psychoeducation and structured communication exercises that make real-world change sustainable.

My work is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and tailored to each client’s unique history and goals. Whether we’re unpacking shame, rebuilding intimacy, processing trauma, or re-educating the body toward safety and pleasure, my goal is to create a space that feels safe, direct, curious, playful, and deeply human.
