Dr. Anthony Hughes
Owner, LMFT, CST,
AAMFT Supervisor
My name is Anthony Hughes, and I hold a Ph.D. from Brigham Young University. As an AAMFT approved supervisor in the state of Utah, I specialize in sex therapy and I am a Certified Sex Therapist through AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists). My extensive experience includes addressing a range of issues such as sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, pain, satisfaction, and addiction or out-of-control sexual behavior.

I firmly believe that the most effective therapy occurs when clinicians integrate their authentic selves with their knowledge and skills. By embracing this approach, we become the most compassionate and effective healers. When working with individuals or couples, I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship. Through this connection, I aim to understand the factors that may limit sexual relationships or overall sexuality, while also recognizing and utilizing individual strengths and resources.
My therapeutic approach involves delving into the personal narratives of individuals, couples, and society at large. By exploring these narratives, I help people uncover their deepest desires and align their lives with their soul's yearnings. Additionally, I assist individuals in identifying and letting go of any negative influences that may have unknowingly hindered their personal growth, allowing them to become more congruent with their authentic selves.

Throughout my practice, I have utilized various therapeutic methods, including the Sexual Attentiveness and Accountability Model (SAAM), Neurofeedback, Spiritual Organic Authentic Relational (SOAR) Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the Gottman Method. These approaches provide a comprehensive toolkit to address a wide range of challenges.

Neurofeedback makes my therapeutic approach even more versatile, effective, and unique. Neurofeedback is a therapeutic intervention that improves different brain waves and therefore personal functioning through a learning process from a highly sophisticated neurofeedback machine that monitors brain waves (EEG) and modifies them through rewards and inhibits (feedback loops). Neurofeedback is used for a multiplicity of presenting problems such as depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, traumatic brain injuries, insomnia/sleep disturbances, stress, addictions, learning difficulties, headaches/migraines, mood disorders, anger, OCD, and low energy.

Choosing to become a counselor was driven by my desire to profoundly impact couples' life satisfaction and marital fulfillment. I am committed to helping couples achieve transformative changes that positively shape their overall well-being.
